ModernATC vs. enrolling in an AT-CTI program
These aren't competitors — an AT-CTI degree is a multi-year college pathway into the FAA hiring pipeline, while ModernATC is a study tool you use once you're in the pipeline. People still ask, so here's the honest framing: when does each make sense, and how do they fit together.
- AT-CTI is an FAA-recognized credential — graduates of Enhanced AT-CTI programs may qualify for skip-the-Academy pathways (when those bids are open).
- Structured aviation degree with instructor mentorship, lab simulators, and a peer cohort.
- Eligibility for FAA hiring bids open to CTI-only applicants (when issued).
- Costs less than a single semester of tuition. A year of Pro is $249 versus tens of thousands for a four-year degree.
- Works for everyone in the pipeline — CTI graduates, off-the-street hires, certified controllers on transfer. AT-CTI only helps if you're at a participating school.
- Updates with each .65 change package automatically. Your textbook is frozen at print date; ours is current.
- Spaced repetition scheduler keeps you sharp across the months-long wait between bid acceptance and Class Convening Date.
- Includes the ATSA prep modules. Most CTI programs assume you already passed the ATSA before they admit you.

Should I enroll in an AT-CTI program?
If you're early in your education and aviation is the goal, an Enhanced AT-CTI degree opens hiring paths you wouldn't otherwise have. If you're past college age or already employed, the off-the-street application route is the realistic option. ModernATC is helpful on both paths.
I'm enrolled in an AT-CTI program — do I still need ModernATC?
Many CTI students use ModernATC to supplement coursework, especially in the months before their Academy class convenes. Course materials cover the theory; daily FSRS review keeps the .65 sharp through the inevitable wait.
Is AT-CTI still relevant after the 2024 hiring changes?
Enhanced AT-CTI graduates still qualify for restricted bids when the FAA issues them. The hiring landscape changes — check the FAA's latest USA Jobs posting for current eligibility. The Academy curriculum itself doesn't change based on how you got hired.
Are you affiliated with any AT-CTI school?
No. ModernATC is independent and not endorsed by any institution. We offer institutional licensing to CTI programs that want to give cohorts access (see /institutions), but using ModernATC does not constitute enrollment in any program.
